Phoenix Bass Fishing League (Boater)

Lake Murray | Dreher Island State Park

Finishing position: 70th

#fish caught: 0

#fish weighed: 0 Big Fish: n/a

lbs. of fish: 0

Tournament Conditions: Weather conditions were not very favorable. This particular tournament started a couple weeks earlier than normal. The air temps were in the low 40’s during the morning and into the upper 40’s as the day went on. Winds were relatively calm in the morning but picked up as the day went on. Water level was down about 3’-4’ likely due to normal winter draw down. Water clarity was mostly clear in most of the areas I fished. This tournament fished very well for Lake Murray in January. The wining weight was 26lbs, which is an awesome weight. Practice for me in this tournament was really tough and tournament day was even tougher. Just goes to show how good these guy’s and the pro’s that fish for a living are. While my results were not what I expected I did learn allot of new things. I obviously missed a key signal to key in on what the fish were doing, cause these guys caught them in this tourney. This was the first tournament for the 2025 season for me so hopefully I can adjust and catch them better in the next one.

Phoenix Bass Fishing League (Boater)

Lake Keowee | South Cove County Park

Finishing position: 74

#fish caught: 3

#fish weighed: 3 Big Fish: n/a

lbs. of fish: 4.8

Tournament Conditions: Weather conditions for this tournament were favorable but cold! This tournament started a week earlier than the normal schedule. The air temps were in the upper 30’s during the morning and into the middle 40’s as the day went on. Winds were relatively calm in the morning but picked up as the day went on. Water level was at about normal level maybe down a foot or so. Water clarity was mostly clear in most of the areas I fished which is common for this lake. This tournament fished well for Lake Keowee in January. The wining weight was almost 16lbs, which is an expected weight this time of year. Practice for me in this tournament was really tough and tournament day was even tougher. While my results were not what I expected I did learn allot of new things about fishing a super clear deep lake. I found a ton of fish but they would not eat the way I wanted to catch them. This was the first tournament for the Savanah river trail of the 2025 season for me so hopefully I can adjust and catch them better in the next one.

Phoenix Bass Fishing League (Boater)

Lake Hartwell | Green Pond Landing

Finishing position: 25th

#fish caught: 5

#fish weighed: 5 Big Fish: n/a

lbs. of fish: 13.08

Tournament Conditions: Weather conditions were very favorable. The air temps were in the upper 40’s during the morning and into the upper 60’s as the day went on. Winds were relatively calm in the morning but picked up as the day went on. Water level was down about 1’-2’ likely due to normal winter draw down. Water clarity was mostly clear in most of the areas I fished. This tournament fished very well! The wining weight was 21lbs, which is an awesome weight. Practice for me in this tournament was really good and tournament day was pretty much what I expected. While my results were favorable I knew it was going to take at least 18lbs to make it into the top 10. This was the second tournament for the 2025 season on the South Carolina trail. Being this was my first time fishing on Lake Hartwell as a boater, I know what I can do better next time but I’m happy to place where I did. Of course I want to always be in contention to win but the talent that fishes on these trails is super competitive. I am looking forward to Santee!

Phoenix Bass Fishing League (Boater)

Santee Cooper Lakes | John C. Land III Landing

Finishing position: 37th

#fish caught: 3

#fish weighed: 3 Big Fish: 6.5

lbs. of fish: 11.11

Tournament Conditions: Weather conditions were favorable other than the cold! The air temps were in the low 20’s during the morning and into the upper 50’s as the day went on. Winds were relatively calm most of the tournament. Water level was down about 1/2’ likely due to winter draw down. Water clarity was mixed. Half of the lake was super muddy and the other was clear. Water temps were much colder than I expected which I think drew the fish back out of the spawning mode. Practice for me in this tournament was really tough. While my results were favorable I knew it was going to take at least 20lbs to make it into the top 10. The wining weight was 35lbs, which is almost an unbelievable weight! One of the anglers caught a huge 13.6lb largemouth! This was my third tournament for the 2025 season on the South Carolina trail. This was my first time fishing Santee as a boater, I know what I can do better next time but I’m happy to place where I did. It seems overlooked with the big fish caught here but I was able to catch a 6lb largemouth that helped my weight out. This finish bumped me up to 39th overall in the trail. I’m not sure how I feel about our next stop, Lake Keowee. Last time at Lake Keowee was tough for me, I am always excited and ready to go fish!

Phoenix Bass Fishing League (Boater)

Lake Keowee | South Cove County Park

Finishing position: 36th

#fish caught: 5

#fish weighed: 5 Big Fish: n/a

lbs. of fish: 10.09

Tournament Conditions: Weather conditions for this tournament were favorable. The air temps were in the upper 40’s during the morning and into the middle 60’s as the day went on. Winds were light in the morning but picked up as the day went on. Water level was at about normal level maybe down a foot or so. Water clarity was mostly clear in most of the areas I fished which is common for this lake. This tournament fished well for Lake Keowee in March. The wining weight was 17lbs, which is a normal weight this time of year. Practice for me in this tournament was better than expected and tournament day was decent but I was working for a better outcome. While my results were about what I expected I did learn some more new things about fishing a super clear deep lake. I found a ton of fish but they would not eat the way I wanted to catch them. Very few fish were on beds this time. This tournament was a much better improvement from last time here.

Phoenix Bass Fishing League (Boater)

Lake Hartwell | Green Pond Landing

Finishing position: 85th

#fish caught: 5

#fish weighed: 5 Big Fish: n/a

lbs. of fish: 7.08

Tournament Conditions: Weather conditions were very favorable. The air temps were in the upper 40’s during the morning after a cold front came thru and into the upper 70’s as the day went on. Winds were relatively calm for the entirety of the tournament. Water level was down about 1’-2’ likely due to normal winter draw down. Water clarity was mostly clear in the lower lake but muddy in the upper lake after the front came thru and brought allot of rain. This tournament fished very well and the wining weight was 20lbs. Practice for me in this tournament was good but on tournament day things did not go as I planned. Most of the areas I had identified that were holding fish were not able to produce on tourney day. This was my second time fishing on Lake Hartwell as a boater. I learned allot in this tourney and in my opinion my results don’t represent my fishing ability. There was allot of good anglers in this tourney. I will ponder on this one a bit but I have to learn from it and move on and prepare for the next tournament.

Phoenix Bass Fishing League (Boater)

Clarks Hill Lake | Wildwood Park

Finishing position: 17th

#fish caught: 3

#fish weighed: 3 Big Fish: N/A

lbs. of fish: 8.12

Tournament Conditions: Weather conditions were favorable but extremely hot, with mostly clear skies and air temperatures hovering in the mid-90s. Water temperatures were also high, reaching into the low 90s across most of the lake. The lake was nearly full, with clear water down near the dam and lightly stained water further up the lake. Winds were calm throughout the tournament, which made for stable fishing conditions. Practice went well, and I felt confident heading into tournament day. I was on what I believed to be a potential winning pattern, and the fish were set up just right. Unfortunately, the key big bites I needed either missed the bait or came unbuttoned. The tournament featured a reduced weigh-in limit of three fish, which was put in place to help protect the fishery under the extreme heat—definitely the right call, but it added another layer of difficulty to an already challenging event. While a Top 20 finish wasn’t exactly what I was shooting for, it’s still a solid result and helped me move up in the points standings. I’m taking the positives from this one and staying focused for the next event.

Phoenix Bass Fishing League (Boater)

Clarks Hill Lake | Wildwood Park

Finishing position: 43rd

#fish caught: 3

#fish weighed: 3 Big Fish: n/a

lbs. of fish: 6.06

Tournament Conditions: Back-to-Back Tournament Recap – Same Lake, New Challenges. We were back on the same lake just a week later, and while the weather and lake conditions stayed nearly identical—clear skies, air temps in the mid-90s, water temps in the low 90s, and mostly calm winds—the fishing pressure had clearly ramped up. With a lot of boats on the water two weeks in a row, the fish had adjusted. The patterns I relied on the week before had shifted, and the bite was noticeably tougher. The fish were more hesitant and far less aggressive, which made capitalizing on limited opportunities even more important. The weigh-in limit was again reduced to three fish to help reduce mortality rates due to the extreme heat—definitely the right move, but it meant there was even less margin for error. My finish was okay—not what I was hoping for, but still strong enough to move me up in the overall points standings. I’ll take the progress and the lessons learned as I regroup and get ready for the next one.
